WEvents - An Intimate Affair

Some time ago, yours truly came across a blog post about a WEvents organized event sponsored by Nose and well attended by working women Klang Valley wide. Check it out here. I was intrigued by the fact that there existed a group of women that organised social events for women only, to empower women of this modern era - in terms of health, beauty and more. :)

When I heard of their latest event, sponsored by Xixili and aptly entitled - An Intimate Affair, I knew I had to go. So Sabrina and I signed up and headed over to Italiannies @The Gardens on the 27th of January for a WEvents experience.

Upon arrival at the registration counter, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly hellos. After paying the RM10 fee (exclusive for WEvents members, non-members=RM30), we were promptly handed goodie bags and asked to pick apples... yes.. apples.

The apple we picked was supposed to describe our personality, Sab picked vivacious and I picked sexy. Hmm..

The event was held in a private area inside Italiannies. Nice :)

I love looking through goodie bags hehe, who doesn't? We all got angpow packets, a golden book wallet and a discount calender from Xixili, a copy of the latest Gorgeous magazine, and a stalk of red rose each from Petalbees Florist & Gifts.

Italiannies provided free flow canapes and ice lemon tea all throughout the event as well. Canapes consisted of 3 types of bruschetta, 2 types of pizzas and bread pudding.

The night started off with an opening message from Joanne Khoo, CEO of Xixili Intima Sdn Bhd, who I thought looked very young for her age.

Followed by speaker Josephine Leong, who taught us about how to find the right fit in terms of cup and band size. Extremely enlightening as she even taught us how to find the right bra for different breast shapes and showed us what a wrong bra fit looked like. What helped the most was she used a live model to demonstrate all these.

After the helpful session the model proceeded to exihibit Xixili's latest collection which in my opinion was fab. Especially the bustier piece underneath the nightie shown in the pic above, it was utterly ravishing, believe me. Just go into any Xixili and look for a bustier with similar threadwork.

True to the saying "save the best for last", the Xixili team gave out vouchers for one free bra at the end of the event. Yes you heard right, ONE FREE XIXILI BRA. Woots!

Would I go for another WEvents social event? You betcha.

Brazilian wax, anyone?

Shall we do a Hollywood, Playboy or L'Amour?

Those aren't perfume names, card game names, or porn star names.
Even a better fact, they're actually keywords for female hygiene.

As everyone may already know, the Brazilian wax has recently deemed its popularity in Malaysia. Waxing specialist salons are mushrooming everywhere in kl. Brides-to-be everywhere also make appointments prior to their wedding or honeymoon.

Waxing down there aint easy. it takes courage and guts for people with lower pain thresholds. a revolution for people like me:D some people do it for hygiene, some for boyfriends n hubbies, some for self confidence. i decided to take the plunge only recently. partly peer pressure, partly for adventure sake. haha. i pierced the belly button. what cud be more painful right? but personally, trust me, u'll get addicted to how hygienic it feels once u have it done:)

This post is dedicated for all those pink crazies brazilian waxing wannabes out there. recommended by a dear colleague of mine, i decided to tryout Honeypot Wax Boutique at BSC for my second session (yes, second). everything was so pink! *dizzy excitedd*

The waxing service was slower than Strip. personally, i prefer it to be done fast. do faster, less staring. lol. but anyhow, i like how the waxer do it in detail. not the staring part la. process goes like this: dip stick in wax, apply, chat to distract you, STRIP (ow) off wax, and tweeze off ingrowns or remaining short ones. the tweezing part was what i meant by detail.

By the way, for this salon, the Hollywood means all off. Playboy means all off except a strip in the middle. L'amour means u'll get a heart shape tuff on ur vahjayjay. fancy huh:) only for the fancy hearted. not this time around for me, though.

They even use pink wax. called Cherry Pie wax, i was told.

The waxer also told me how she was trained. apparently she learnt how to brazilian wax professionally from a beauty school. practice sessions are like, on each other. whoa awkwarrd. but all is good, she did a good job and only that matters. hehe.

For those who are wondering about the pain, i would say i'll rate my pain 2/10. not bad riiight. so for those who's like 50% deciding on it. go ahead and do it already. u can try any salon you prefer, and share ur experiences in our comment section too:) i would love to do a review on Strip in telawi as well but i forgot to take pictures:-/

Beauty DIY: Aspirin Mask

Yays! Finally tried out the aspirin mask. Well it was not so much a mask, it turned out more liquidy than expected.

Instead of using the normal Bayer's aspirin I went for the cheaper alternative instead: Ranbaxy's Uniaspirin which also happens to be in soluble tablet form. Makes the process easier :)

I decided to crush the 3 tablets anyway so that the tablets would dissolve faster. Then I added a soup spoon of water.

Next, I added aloe vera gel (Fruit of the Earth brand) and mixed till the gel was properly dispersed. The gel doesn't really mix with water so it won't dissolve, it'll just disperse in the water creating a sorta emulsion thingy.

Last step, I added in a soup spoon of honey into the emulsion and mixed till I got the light goldish mixture as per picture below.

So I just slathered some on my face, left it for 15 minutes, and then used the rest of the mixture as a facial scrub since aspirin makes a good exfoliant. After the mask I applied aloe vera gel before sleeping, only because my skin is the sensitive type and I was afraid it would turn red after using the aspirin mask.

Verdict: Didn't see any effect immediately after but over the course of the next few days, my blemishes reduced slightly and my skin was also brighter and clearer looking. Now, all I have to do is discipline myself to carry out this whole process this weekly :/

Skin Food

I think this is a pretty cool gift for any girl, don't you? :)
I like the packaging and there are so many types of masks all jammed packed into a Skin Food zip-lock bag it was like christmas came early in the form of facial masks. Lol.

There were 3 different types of facial mask, as per picture shown above: Rice Mask, Repairing Mask and Omija Whitening Mask. And the bag contained FOUR of each type, yay!
My fave outta the 3 has be the repairing mask, containing red ginseng and royal jelly. My skin actually does look brighter and more plumped up after using it.

And then there was this, 1 packet of green tea milk cleansing cream. Which I haven't actually tried yet heehee.
The package also included a packet of salmon eye brightening serum, which was a little oily and didn't show any immediate results so... I didn't bother posting the picture up =p

Now THIS, is the one product that I'd definitely buy again. The package also contained 4 of this but I've already used them all up!

When you open up the packet you get a blister pack with a silver foil backing. Tear that open and you'll see the collagen + carrot essence drenched silicon mask.

After removing the front and back plastic protectors the silicon mask looks like this and you just stick it onto the eyebag area. It's shape gives a perfect fit (for me la). The instructions say to leave it on for 30 mins but I usually leave it over night and wake up with brighter and more taut eyebag area. I like!

Can't find this in our skinfood stores though cuz this package's direct from Korea. So either I'm not looking hard enough, or this product has yet to grace our shores. So if anyone can find this in our stores please gimme a holla!

Experiment 101 - The Aspirin Mask

Ok I'm so totally gonna sound like a bimbo and a jakun here but I just stumbled upon a DIY mask that apparently works wonders for oily, blemish prone skin!

I don't know how effective it'll be but the ingredients make sense to me so I decided to take a risk on my skin and embark on an experiment of this DIY mask.

Why I say the ingredients make sense? Check it out:
1. 3 tablets Aspirin

2. Gentle gel cleanser
3. Aloe Vera gel
4. Honey

Aspirin is in essence --> acetylsalicylic acid, which is an acetylated version of salicylic acid (a main ingredient used in many blemish targeted skin care products). And I suppose the aloe vera gel is there for soothing purposes and the honey for its antioxidative properties.

I got this "recipe" from here, one of those beauty blogs I've been frequenting recently.

I suppose I've always been intrigued with how these chemical thingies affect the skin, so I'm thinking, I might just go into cosmecueticals as a specialisation after this. :)

Loving Minerals

I've always preferred mineral cosmetics cuz it's better for my type of skin and less likely to cause breakouts :) So when I saw Loving Minerals I decided to just give it a try cuz they offer cute little samples at only RM5!

I love opening postal packages :) hehe. Was delighted to recieve the package only 2 days after purchase and it even came in a cute little white pouch with a red jeweled flower on it. Me like!

There so many types of foundations, powders and eyeshadows to choose from but I settled with Monave Claire Concealer Foundation , Lumiere Sheer Silk Powder, and Pink Pearl Eyeshadow.

I was a bit sceptical about how well a powder concealer foundation could actually work but the monave claire did a pretty good job of concealing. Although it takes at least 2 applications to properly conceal and putting more than 2 layers gives a slight cakey appearance.

The sheer silk powder was perfect for setting the foundation and gave my skin a nice matte look. And it's actually a good oil control product as it kept my skin shine free for hours! Would definitely consider investing in this one.

The pink pearl eyeshadow was my fave. To me, it was perfect as a base cuz its not too pink and has a nice pearly sheen as well. Best part is I got this for free! All I had to do was add loving minerals on facebook :)

Verdict:

Will definitely explore and invest in their eyeshadows. (RM24-RM29) The silk powder is tempting but I don't know if it's worth the price (RM58). I'll give the foundation a pass :/

Beauty DIY - Liese Hair Dye

After all the hype I heard about this new foam hair dye I decided to just give it a try, since its seems pretty easy to do. There are many colours available but cuz I wanted a darker shade than my current one I decided to go for Ash Brown :)

These are the contents inside the Liese Hair Dye package. (Clockwise from top) The number 1&2 solutions, the foaming nozzle, the allergy test patch, nutrient hair conditioner and gloves.

After reading the instructions I decided to just do the allergy test since this foaming chemical is pretty new and I wouldn't know if I was allergic to it or not. Instructions says to leave it on for 48 hours and check for any reaction but I reckon if my skin's not even red after 2 hours of application I should be fine.

Allergy test:

Step 1 - two drops of solution 1

Step 2 - three drops of solution 2

Step 3 - stir properly to ensure even mix

Step 4 - apply coin size patch on inner arm and leave for 30 mins to 2 hours. Check for reaction (eg redness, itchiness, burning sensation)

Dyeing process:

1. Pour solution 1 into solution 2 bottle.

2. Cap the bottle and gently invert a few times to mix contents.

3. Install foaming nozzle and squeeze bottle to dispense foaming dye.

After application and massaging the foam dye your hair will look like this. Exactly like shampooed hair.

I must say I like the result cuz it evenly covered my hair from root to tip, covering my previous dye. And the resulting colour is actually pretty similar to the colour displayed on the box.

The only dissatisfaction I had was that this hair dye makes the hair very dry, even more drying then normal hair dye. A hairstylist even said many people have been going to saloons to get treatment due to the super drying effect of this hair dye. That's why I made it a point to leave the dye in for less than 30 mins and use good conditioner and serum after dyeing the hair.

Today is the 7th day after dyeing and the colour still looks good, no split ends have appeared yet, and there's less hair fall compared to normal dye. So would I use this again? Yes I would :)

The Hammam & Gommage experience.

Last time i went to spa wasnt exactly the best experience for me. got some superb discount at this Girls Day Out event. the masseus was practically climbing all over me, yes, on the massage bed and i can feel it even with my head down buried into the pillow. painful weh. and they made me bathe with just a frickin pair of disposable underpants in a bathtub. then i thought, NEVER again.

But this place totally changed my perspective about the spa. the so called pampered luxurious feeling they raved about. no more so called now, it's the greatest feeling! The Hammam Spa is located in Bangsar Village II. It's a traditional moroccan version of a turkish bath. it was decorated fancy-shmancily with gorgeous turkey-moroccan deco. The catch was Hammam and Gommage (Hammam means bath in arabic and gommage=exfoliation/scrub) and along with massages and everything else a spa has to offer.

I went for their Ramadhan promotion which seems worth it for the price. for RM250 u get a foot scrub, hammam&gommage, 1hr massage, face massage and foot massage, and a hibiscus&lemon tea.

First i was brought to the locker room and given an electronic key bracelet. asked to change into my bikini and wrap myself in a robe. i brought my own bikini. otherwise, they have a pair of black disposable ones for you.

So the catch about hammam and gommage is that, you're being bathed just like a moroccan queen. or think cleopatra. lol. nah actually to me it felt like mama giving me a bath when i was tinyy. they scooped water and pour on you. then comes the exfoliation part. you lay on the tile bench, face down. the girl in charge put on a pair of gloves. rough ones. and began scrubbing u up. some say it felt like being skinned alive. all your dead skin came out like the black rubber bits u get when you use your eraser on a paper. yucks right. but the outcome was great man. smooth skin. here...feel mine. dont get jealous!muahaha.

All in all i love the service they offered here. the staffs were all friendly, they even have 1 or 2 moroccan workers here for originality. the massage was marvelous (i went ooh-ahh-sigh-wow-thats-nice in my heart the whole time) and the ambience was awesome (that's why i went thickfaced to ask photography permission before i took all these photos).price also awesome tapi at least the service was worth it la. i wud definitely recommend u guys to come after a hard day's work. or future brides. to get bathed by people and massaged into oblivion. hehe. in my experience, memang instant softer skin after your scaling session. they open from 10am-10pm everyday. for more info go to www.hammambaths.com and make your appointments:)
