Malaysian Pole Dance.
Pole as i remembered, when i first started, wasn't something that was looked up to by friends. everyone, in fact. my first mention of the 2 words 'Pole' and 'Dance' itself got me a lot of cheeky expressions from both guys and gals.
I guess pole dance does require you to wear something which bears as much skin as possible. otherwise you wont be able to do this:
or this:
or even this:
but somehow...when i was taught my first spin, i know i got hooked to this activity. every spin spells the word wheeeee in my head. and i wanna do it again and again. and when i finally know how to do the inverts, i wanna know what other cool stuff i can do wth this vertical thing. no matter how many bruises and burns i get from the clipping and rubbing or how madonna-like my arms will get from doing it. don't believe? go try once or twice:)
I stopped the pole classes shortly before my wedding in Dec last year and i'm still stuck at beginner's level. although now i'm learning other aerial stuff like the lyra and the silks...i definitely still miss my pole classes. i wish one day after mastering the circus stuff, i cud come back to it!
If you're interested in pole classes, there are several studios offering it in Malaysia now such as Viva Vertical, Bobby Pole Studio and Broadway Poleworks. it's up to you to choose. there is no preference towards any of the studios. every studio and instructor has their unique way of teaching. so do your research and pick the best!
much love.

Foot lock
It took me quite a long time to learn how to do the foot lock. cuz i'm just slow like that:)
First and foremost, thanks to Michelle Kong for being a model in these photos. it really was hard work for her to hold step by step while clinging to the silk. hehe.
Here's the step by step process (the best i can capture on cameraa):
| Make a climb up: Engage and pull urself up the silk. |
![]() |
| Push the silk from under your shin with your left foot (while still clinging on tight!) |
| Now concentrate on ur right foot's little toe. move it under the silk then above, and step on it. tadaah |

Hoop Vocab #8 - Front Lay
![]() |
| Get yer knee up |
![]() |
| Pull yourself up |
![]() |
| Land on the hoop..but not on your crotch! |
![]() |
| End it by arching your back...tadaa! The Front Lay. |
When we first tried the Front Lay, we each got ourselves unattractive bruises on our right inner thigh. However, like everyone says, practice makes perfect. with each attempt we improve in adjusting our weight in order to avoid those nasty bruises:)
We still needta train to get up on the hoop MORE gracefully. lucky for you guys you don't have to watch us on video this time around!
p/s - Aerial Arts must not be attempt thru step by step photos like this. Our entries are all to keep track of what we've learnt since they teach us new stuff every week. Check out www.vivastage.my/ to join us;)

Hoop Vocab #7 - Continuation From The Starfish

A pretty easy one to accomplish. From the starfish roll downwards with both hands on the hoop and feet flexed to support body weight. This is followed by pushing bum outwards and slowly slide down till back of knees are resting on hoop. Like this!

Hoop Vocab #6 - Imma-do-whatever-i-want
You can come up with your own poses while fooling around after class ;D In Elijah's case, he decided to create a more... manly pose i suppose. Lol!

Hoop Vocab #5 - Man In Moon
A bit difficult to balance when u place both your toes up on the hoop. Must find your centre of gravity. Will of course look nicer if toes r pointed.
Hoop Vocab #4 - The Starfish
Find the balance on your lower back and split your legs out against the hoop for support. let go your hands off the hoop and you're a starfish!
Hoop Vocab #3 - The Gazelle
"Must remember to breathe, otherwise your face will turn red like that!" ~ Michelle Kong
Hoop Vocab #2 - The Backlay
I was supposed to release the left arm:)
