Foodventure - Xenri D'Garden Terrace (Menara Hap Seng)

I know I've been doing a lot of jap restaurant reviews, but it's cuz I L.O.V.E jap food. Can't help it =p

So this time, it's jap buffet at Xenri D'Garden Terrace.
Xenri has two branches, one at menara Hap Seng (the garden one) and one at old klang road (the river one) so I'm saving the old klang road branch for another day :)

Check out their spread...

Their sushi was nicely arranged on a wooden boat. Loved the presentation.

And there were so many different types of sushi! Most of it were quite nice :) Except the Inari, which tasted wierd.

I can't remember the name of the dish below but it was yummehh.... Fruit salad with prawns and snow crab meat.

This is their four sashimi sushi, quite yummy also and I thought it looked really nice.

And of course, all jap buffets must have... ROCK OYSTERS! Xenri serves it in two forms, fresh and cheese baked :)

This was probably my fave of the night though, braised wagyu beef. It was DA BOMB. Taste and texture also good :) 3 of us took a total of 5 bowls of this.

They also served a few types of noodly thingies, one of it was cha soba, which was wayyyy better than the one I had at Sakae Sushi.

Also, they served both chicken and beef sukiyaki, and I opted for the latter. You can choose the ingredients you want in your sukiyaki and the chef there will cook it for you. They have mushrooms, a few types of meat, vegetables and some meat ball thingies to choose from.

We obviously enjoyed our food.

Even went for two bowls of ice-cream after that. Green tea and Yam flavour :) They have 6 different flavours of ice-cream and jelly, and many different fruits, pastries and cakes in their dessert section. Not fantastic in terms of taste though, I only liked my ice-cream and the grape flavoured konyaku jelly.

Once you're done with dinner, do go for a walk in the garden. The place is very pwetty ;)

See for yourself, exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

And presenting... the KL tower! Good view of it from the garden.

Foot lock

Hiyaa...sorry for the hiatus:)

It took me quite a long time to learn how to do the foot lock. cuz i'm just slow like that:)

First and foremost, thanks to Michelle Kong for being a model in these photos. it really was hard work for her to hold step by step while clinging to the silk. hehe.

Here's the step by step process (the best i can capture on cameraa):

Make a climb up: Engage and pull urself up the silk.

Push the silk from under your shin with your left foot (while still clinging on tight!)

Now concentrate on ur right foot's little toe. move it under the silk then above, and step on it. tadaah
So that's that, the foot lock. just to refresh our minds on it. kalau tak paham, i'll demo it to you. hehe.

Pick of the week - Sarawak Laksa

Nope I haven't been to Sarawak recently but a cell member cooked Sarawak Laksa for the cell last week and it made me miss the original Sarawak Laksa SO MUCH...

I haven't been able to find any Sarawak Laksa in KL that's as nice as the Kuching one so if anyone knows of any place, please do share the good news :) I've tried the SS23 Restoran Gembira Sarawak Laksa cuz it was touted to be one of the best Sarawak Laksa's in PJ but it came nowhere near the Kuching one :(

This photo was taken at Chong Choon Coffeeshop on Abell road in Kuching, the best Sarawak Laksa in Kuching, so good I had to have it twice in a week :)

A tip though, must always go early if you wanna get a seat at this place and to avoid the laksa being sold out before you even get to eat it =p They usually sell out by 10am.

Foodventure - Lemon Garden Cafe (Shangri-La KL)

We had to book this buffet dinner 2 months in advance so you can imagine how much I was anticipating an awesome buffet spread to greet my family and I. And the buffet spread actually exceeded my expectations (maybe I've got low expectations =p but hey, I was happy hehe)

We didn't manage to take pictures of ALL the food available in the spread because we were too busy eating but here are some of it.

This is their bread and cheese spread. There were crackers and grapes to eat with the cheese as well and they served four kinds of cheeses: Brie, Gorgonzola, Port Salut and one more I don't remember =p But I stuck to the Brie with crackers and grapes cuz I generally prefer creamier cheese that's not too strong.

And then there was the fresh shellfish spread..

There was of course, fresh rock oysters and sashimi too just that we didn't take any pics of that..

Moving on, dim sum was available too...

As well as Malay dishes like this purple lemang right here. And they had all sorts of serunding to eat with the lemang, all of which were super yummy.

We obviously couldn't miss out on the dessert section as well.

What's more, they had TWO fondue fountains. One chocolate, one strawberry and both also equally nice :) I stood there for a while dipping all my fruits and marshmallows into the alternate fondues :D

Even poured some on the cake, lol.

The rest of the spread consisted of Italian cuisine, Western cuisine, Chinese cuisine, Local cuisine and etc. I could go on... but I'm too lazy to haha! So you're just gonna have to head on over to Lemon Garden for yourself and find out :)

Happily well-fed and satisfied customers.

Kitchen DIY #2 - Black Pepper Chicken

Now I know some of you might be thinking black pepper chicken ah, aiyo anybody also can do la. But this black pepper chicken recipe is not the normal "lee kum kee" type black pepper sauce with chicken :) Its yummier...

Recipe courtesy of
Andrew Tan

First marinate chicken fillets with desired amount of crushed black pepper, salt and soy sauce.

I had 11 medium sized chicken fillets, so I used:

- 5 tbsp of crushed black pepper

- 2 tsps of salt

- 1 tbsp of soy sauce

If you like, you can add Lea&Perrins worcestershire sauce to the marinade to give it more flavour.

Leave for 1-2 hours (preferably overnight). Then pan fry the chicken fillets till golden brown, making sure the inside is cooked as well. For a healthier option use olive oil.

Ok the chicken is ready. Now for the sauce.

You'll need:

- 2 big onions

- 2 tsp cornflour

- half a bowl of hot milk

- 3 tbsp crushed black pepper

- half tsp of salt

First, cut the onions into wedges. Then add the black pepper, salt and cornflour into the bowl of hot milk and mix well.

Sweat the onions on a frying pan over medium heat till lightly brown. Then add the milk mixture in and stir well. The sauce should increase in consistency as the boils. If you prefer a thicker gravy feel free to add more cornflour.

Presenting the end product :)

Enjoy!

Cristang

The ever famous Cristang :)
A friend told me about their renowned "P7 - Urban Legend"- a pork burger topped with bacon, melted cheese and a mix of petai and minced pork chilli con carne, and I knew I had to try it.
I went with the cellotape gang and believe me when I say, we weren't disappointed at all ^^

Their burger menu:
P1 : pork patty (RM16.80)
P2 : P1 + back bacon (RM19.80)
P3 : P2 + minced pork chilli con carne (RM23.80)
P4 : P3 + petai in patty (RM25.80)
P5 : P4 + cajun grilled prawns (RM28.80)
P6 : P5 + grilled fresh cut pineapples (RM30.80)
P7 : P4 + melted cheese (RM28.80)
P8 : Tandoori pork burger (RM28.80)
P9 : The Korean inspired - pork burger with kimchi (RM30.80)

Clockwise from top: Cristang menu front page, Bacon & Shrimp Carbonara Fettucine , P7 - Urban Legend

No cellotape gathering is complete without dessert :) Shown above is their homemade oreo ice-cream (RM12.80) and [inset] Apple pie a la Mode (RM12.80).

Wasn't a fan of their apple pie but the oreo ice-cream was pretty good :) kinda like oreos Mcflurry except with more oreos.

We only ordered 3 drinks in total. The Black Monkey (L)- Coke + Mango juice , Green Heaven (R) - Apple + Lychee juice and Cristang Special Coffee (not shown in pic) - coffee + sugarcane.
Both mocktails were too sweet and Cristang Special was nothing special. Next time I'm sticking to beer since it'd probably go well with the pork burger =p

Loving Minerals

I've always preferred mineral cosmetics cuz it's better for my type of skin and less likely to cause breakouts :) So when I saw Loving Minerals I decided to just give it a try cuz they offer cute little samples at only RM5!

I love opening postal packages :) hehe. Was delighted to recieve the package only 2 days after purchase and it even came in a cute little white pouch with a red jeweled flower on it. Me like!

There so many types of foundations, powders and eyeshadows to choose from but I settled with
Monave Claire Concealer Foundation , Lumiere Sheer Silk Powder, and Pink Pearl Eyeshadow.

I was a bit sceptical about how well a powder concealer foundation could actually work but the monave claire did a pretty good job of concealing. Although it takes at least 2 applications to properly conceal and putting more than 2 layers gives a slight cakey appearance.

The sheer silk powder was perfect for setting the foundation and gave my skin a nice matte look. And it's actually a good oil control product as it kept my skin shine free for hours! Would definitely consider investing in this one.

The pink pearl eyeshadow was my fave. To me, it was perfect as a base cuz its not too pink and has a nice pearly sheen as well. Best part is I got this for free! All I had to do was add loving minerals on facebook :)

Verdict:

Will definitely explore and invest in their eyeshadows. (RM24-RM29) The silk powder is tempting but I don't know if it's worth the price (RM58). I'll give the foundation a pass :/
